Comet tracksters near top 10 in Seneca Invite

The Reed-Custer track team collectively finished in the top 11 during the Seneca Invite on Friday.
The boys scored the highest with 26.5 points which was good for 10th. Wilmington scored two points in last while Coal City had 16 in the 14th place. El Paso Gridley led everybody with 151.5. The girls scored 19 points which was good for 11th. Wilmington had 29 in 10th while Coal City had 0. Seneca led every team with 163 points.

Comets edge Lions, split doubleheader with Clifton Comets

The Reed-Custer baseball team engineered a seven-run fifth to earn a 14-8 victory over Clifton Central in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Comets from Reed-Custer were out to a 4-0 with four in the second but Clifton came back with three in the third to make their deficit one, 4-3.
That’s when Reed-Custer pounded out seven runs to increase their lead to eight, 11-3.
The Clifton Comets scored four unanswered to draw within four but the R-C Comets put up another three runs to cruise to a big win.

Lady Comets sweep Lisle, edge Streator

The Reed-Custer softball team edged Streator 3-2 on Saturday, thanks to an excellent pitching performance from Addison Brown.
Brown went the distance as she outbattled Streator’s Simonc, giving up just one earned run on six hits while fanning seven and walking just one.
Her team got her the lead in the third with two runs as an RBI single by Halie LaGrange and a sac fly off the bat of Grace Cavanaugh was enough to give them a 2-0 lead.

McPherson goes the distance to lead Comets to extra innings win over Lions

The Reed-Custer baseball team got eight solid innings from Jake McPherson who dominated on the mound in a 4-2 victory over Lisle on Monday.
The Comet ace went eight innings, giving up one run on five hits while punching out 10 and walking a pair.
The Comets pounded out 12 hits and four runs which all came in the sixth and after.

Comets break school record for goals, score 13 in victory over Sentinels

The Reed-Custer soccer team scored 13 goals to dismantle the Westmont Sentinels 13-1 on Monday.
The Lady Comets were just outside of the top 15 on Illinois High School Association’s record board for goals scored in a match. They have scored the second most in the area over the past 17 years. Bishop McNamara scored 15 goals back in 2005 to beat the Comets 15-1.
The Lady Comets were off and running as it was one goal after another.
They put up 11 goals in the first half to lead 11-0.

Comets tracksters finish near the top in meet with Wildcats, Coalers

The Reed-Custer track team placed at the top against Wilmington and Coal City on Tuesday during a quad meet held at Coal City.
The Reed-Custer girls placed first with 37.5 points while Wilmington (36) and Coal City (25.5) followed.
The girls performances included:
Zoe Hassett-100-T-1st-PR (personal record)-13.0, 200-1st-PR-27.2, 4x200-1st-2:24.5

Lady Comets can’t catch up to Manteno

The Reed-Custer softball team mustered three hits in a 5-0 loss to Manteno on Monday.
Their hits came from Abby Sunday’s single to start the third.
Mya Beard advanced Sunday to second with a rocket into left but they were unable to get her home.
Their other hit came from Halie LaGrange, who smacked a one-out single in the sixth. She was left stranded as the Manteno pitcher was very good at tightroping out of danger.

McPherson leads Comets to victory over ranked Panthers

Jake McPherson pitched lights out baseball with six shutout innings to lead Reed-Custer to a 5-1 win over Manteno, the sixth ranked team in Class 2A.
Reed-Custer coach Jake Evans was happy with his players’ effort to beat a very good ballclub.

Valone wants to grow as a player at KCC

Reed-Custer’s midfielder Alayna Valone will take her goal scoring talent to Kankakee Community College as she recently signed a letter of intent to play soccer at KCC.
For Valone, a four-year varsity letterman, it was all about staying close to home. The scholarship money helped too.
“I just wanted to stay local,” said Valone. “I also got a full ride scholarship so it was nice. It was between KCC and Olivet and I also got a scholarship from them but KCC was a better choice because I wasn’t paying anything.”

ICE names best of boys hoops

Eight boys basketball players from three area teams were named All Conference by the Illinois Central Eight coaches for the 2021-22 season.
The Reed-Custer Comets, who finished with a 15-14 record and fifth in the conference, had Lucas Foote and Wes Shats earn All-Conference while Jace Christian was given honorable mention.
