When I was little, maybe 4 or 5, I was to stand up at my uncle's wedding. I was getting fitted for my flower girl dress, and I fussed and squirmed. My uncle said that he had a surprise for me, if I behaved. He had tickets to the circus! I became an angel.
In this case, it was Barnum and Bailey's, under a real tent, not a building. I rode an elephant, stuffed myself with cotton candy and popcorn, marveled at the fat lady, and thought I was in heaven. I came home with sawdust in my hair, and a smile on my face. Those days will never return. Good or bad, I miss them.
