If there’s one thing Mayor Roy Strong is determined to do, it’s stop the City Council from continuing to deficit spend. If there’s another, it’s increasing permanent revenue.
The City Council met in special session last week to come to terms with the budget that the council did not approve on July 18, but had to be filed with the county before the end of July. The budget relies on fund reserves — savings — to balance, and has for several years. This will be one of the last years the city has reserves to fall back on if city officials don’t turn the tides.
