First baby of the new year

Grundy County's first baby of the new year arrived at Morris Hospital at 12:37 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2018. Baby Corinne Rose Casey is the daughter of Rebecca and Kevin Casey, of Reddick.
Delivered by Obstetrician/Gynecologist Erik Muraskas, M.D., Corinne weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and measured 21 inches at birth. She is Rebecca and Kevin's second child.
Rebecca's due date was Jan. 15, but she had to be induced on Jan. 1, which also turned out to be the area's coldest New Year's Day in history, according to the National Weather Service. Corinne has stayed warm in the hospital's Family Birthing Suites, and Rebecca says her daughter has been peaceful and calm since her arrival.
“If she does cry, she has the softest and cutest cry,” says Kevin, who works as a plumber for Service First Mechanical in Morris. “That probably won't last long.”
Rebecca, who works as a teacher in Carol Stream, picked the name because she and her husband liked the alliteration. Even though Corinne's arrival ended up as a scheduled delivery, her parents were certainly not expecting her to be Grundy County's first baby born in 2018.
“I'm just happy she's here,” Rebecca says. “I just wanted her healthy.”
Baby Corinne is the granddaughter of Edward and Regina Casey, of Land O' Lakes, WI; Dianne Gumm, of Elgin, IL and James Gumm and Mary Wilcop, both of Wheaton, IL.
As Grundy County's first baby of 2018, Corinne was showered with gifts from Grundy County Chamber of Commerce members, including an on-the-go baby dome from Step by Step Child Care Center, books and a basket from the Coal City Public Library, a gift basket from the United Way of Grundy County, a picture frame from the Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice, a gift certificate and baby skin cream from Three Wells Acupuncture Clinic, a bear and bib from Just Kidding Around, a photo session and story book from Dutch Girl Photography, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse books from Three Rivers Public Library District, a one-night stay from Holiday Inn Express, a onesie from Midland State Bank, a gift certificate from the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce, a gift certificate from Arloa's RockInRoe Boutique, a 30-day membership from Peak Fitness, and baby toys from Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers.
