Homecoming glitz

STUDENTS AT COAL CITY High School selected eight members of the senior class to the school’s homecoming court. The Coalers will celebrate homecoming next week—Sept. 26-Oct. 1—with the theme of Glitz and Glamour. Activities will include a series of dress up days, flag football and class competitions, a community-wide parade, athletic contests and a dance. Homecoming is a good time to get glammed up, and that’s the concept for all the activities taking part next week as Coal City High School celebrates homecoming week.
The week-long celebration is designed to be the best week of the year for high schoolers with fun activities, traditions and plenty of celebrating.
The school’s student council is responsible for organizing and carrying out homecoming week activities from setting up a week of dress up days and class contests, to hosting the homecoming pep assemblies and dance.
Glitz and Glamour is the theme for this year’s homecoming that runs from Monday, Sept. 26 to Saturday, Oct. 1.
On Monday afternoon, the staff will take on the seniors in a game of flag football and the homecoming king and queen [selected by a vote of the senior class] will be announced giving them a full week to ‘rule’ the school.
A pep assembly will take place Thursday afternoon and the traditional spirit night will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Sept. 30 all Unit 1 students will be dismissed early for the homecoming parade. The district will operate on a first/last day of school schedule.
The community is encouraged to view the parade and then head out to the high school for the football game that evening against Manteno.
The volleyball and soccer teams will be in action on Thursday with contests against Wilmington and Reed-Custer respectively.
The homecoming parade featuring the Marching Coaler Band, school groups and athletic teams and community businesses will step off at 2:30 p.m. from Elm Street and make its way north along South Broadway to Carbon Street.
There will also be hallway decorating, dress up days and a dance on Saturday evening.
Dress up day themes for this year begin with BBQ dad and soccer mom day on Monday, followed by celebrity day on Tuesday and Wednesday is class color day—freshman wear purple, sophomores are orange, juniors wear red and seniors will be in blue.
Thursday is set as white lie day and students are called on to wear their school colors for Coaler day on Friday.
