Michael R. Swisher Sr.

WILMINGTON— Michael R. Swisher, Sr., “Old Man”, 66, of Wilmington, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2019 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born Oct. 2, 1953 in Joliet, Michael Ray is a son of Clara Louise (nee Austin) Swisher and Robert Swisher. He was raised and educated in Braidwood and went on to be honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. Mike married Doris Jean Hilgendorf and together they raised their family in Wilmington.
Mike worked as a machinist, and truly enjoyed being retired. He took pleasure in playing cards; drinking coffee with his buddies, and just being with family, which always remained his foremost priority.
Survivors include his mother, Louise; wife, Doris; sons: Michael, Jr. (Jennifer) Swisher, and Shawn Swisher (Jess Nau); and two grandchildren: Courtney Swisher (fiancé – Dustin Wilbur), and Tyler Swisher (Korine McGarvey), all of Wilmington; one great grandchild anticipated; one brother; Robert (Pat) Swisher, of Braceville; one sister; Kathy (Tom) Noel ,of Wilmington; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Carol Hilgendorf, of Wilmington; Jerry (Brenda) Hilgendorf, of Louisiana; and Judy (Richard) Heacock, of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Ronald.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation and celebration of Mike’s life on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Inurnment will follow in Wesley Cemetery in Ritchie.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Mike’s memory to his family for their distribution.
