The Coal City Miners entered Wolfpack territory on Saturday in Ottawa, coming up with one of four victories for the day.

Superlights

The Miners Superlights improved to 3-0 with yet another shut out, 18-0, against the Ottawa Wolfpack.

Offensively, Brady Loughran led the charge with 2 touchdowns and several good runs. Cole Watson and Levi Hennessy connected on a 20-yard pass and catch, with Watson finishing it off with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

Miners defense held it down for the shut out with big tackles by Cole Coleman, Brady Loughran, Brayden Plata, Aaron Evans, and Cole Watson.

Lightweights

The Minor Lightweights suffered a 7-27 loss against Ottawa

The CC offense struggled to move the ball and defense had a hard time stopping. But all in all the kids played a great game.

Austin Newman had some great rushing yards and Drake Heath used his power to push through the line for our extra point. Drake Figge caught a line drive kick and ran back for our touchdown, Brody Bitner and TJ Wagner had some great forced fumbles and tackles in the back field. Great game kids.

JV Miners

The Coal City Junior Varsity lost 42-6 against Ottawa. The Miners’ only touchdown was from a pass from Ryan Carpenter to Kenny Tazelaar.

Offensive line was led by Patrick Tibble, Cade Krull, and Noah Grant. The defense was on their toes from the start. Zackary Babcock led the team in tackles with 8, Ryder Gill followed with 6 and Bryson Male had 4. Also playing well were William Teague and Ryder Sorensen.

“We look to face an evenly matched Reed-Custer team on Sunday,” said the coach.

Varsity Miners

The Varsity Miners suffered their second loss of the season, 35-0.

The offense had a tough time finding the end zone. Their best opportunity came in the second quarter with a 30-yard catch and run interception from LB Caiden Tourigny to set up the Miners on the 3-yard line.

Unfortunately, they could not cross the goal line.

The defense came up with another Connor Rodriguez interception but could not convert. Two other stand out defensive players were corner Kal Hogan and LB Carter Wix.

The Miners are on the road again this weekend, facing the Jr. Comets at Reed- Custer High School on Sunday, Aug. 27.
