Susan E. Kahler

WILMINGTON— Susan E. Kahler, 73, of Wilmington, and originally from Jacksonville, IL, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Dec. 1, 2019 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born April 20, 1946 in Jacksonville, Susan Eileen was the daughter of Albert Andrew and Muriel Ray (Spaulding) Hatala. She was raised and educated in Jacksonville, where she graduated from high school.
Susan worked for Harrah’s Casino in Joliet for 20 years. She had a fondness for animals and loved going to the zoo. Susan also took pleasure in playing cards and cooking, but nothing was greater than her love of spending time with her granddaughter.
Survivors include her daughters: Racquel Hembrough (Rich Princko) and Heidi Hembrough (Jeff Lundberg), both of Wilmington; step-children: Debbie (Tom) Hartman, of Wilmington; and Mark Kahler (Wendy Hunter,) of Metamora, IL; two grandchildren: Hannah Basinger and Adam Hartman; one brother, Albert A. (Sue) Hatala, of Wellington, NV; and nieces and nephew: Albert, Kit and Alicia; as well as her good friend and neighbor, Carol Sammons.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents.
Green flameless cremation rites have been accorded, and a private family graveside and inurnment will be in Oakwood Sunset Cemetery in Wilmington.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Susan’s memory to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home or to a Humane Society of the donor’s choosing.
