D Construction submits winning bid for Broadway

    It will still be a couple of weeks before it’s official, but the South Broadway reconstruction project has a contractor.
    At a state bid letting in Springfield last week, the Illinois Department of Transportation opened bids for a number of projects across the state. The winning bid for Coal City’s project was submitted by D Construction.

CVS seeks continued use of its drive-up

     Patrons of CVS Pharmacy often utilize the drive-up window to procure their prescriptions, but it has recently come to light the service window was never officially approved by the village of Coal City.
    Located on the north side of the pharmacy at 245 S. Broadway, the service window has been in operation for 20-plus years, but town officials say it was never officially approved by the Village Board as a conditional use consistent with zoning assigned to the property.

But, what it takes to provide safe, abundant and affordable water is seldom something people consider, including where that water comes from, what it takes to bring it to homes and businesses, and what funds are available to develop new water sources, treatment options, and storage and delivery systems.

Congress gets set to head back to work following the August recess, and representatives will duke it out when it comes to getting their issue pushed to the top of the list.

One issue that isn’t likely to see much action is transportation — bad news for drivers fed up with crumbling roads and backed up lanes in Will and Grundy counties.

Earlier this month, U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger, R-16, said there was little good news when it comes to federal funds allocated for work to improve the area’s roadways, particularly the Interstate 55 and Interstate 80 corridors.

Friday night football brought one victory and a pair of losses for three area teams.

Wilmington scored 12 unanswered points in the final quarter to win 39-20 at Manteno; Coal City gave powerhouse Morris a scare until the very end losing 21-7; and Reed-Custer was only one touchdown away in the third quarter before falling to Fieldcrest 34-20.

    Safe, effective and sustainable is the company’s product mission, and at Norwex, its label doesn’t go on unless those criteria are met. So, it says something about what’s happening in Coal City when a global company puts its support behind a local project.
    The company that specializes in environmentally- friendly cleaning and personal care products is backing an expansion of the Hope Helps All-inclusive Playground in Coal City’s Lions Park. They are donating $25,000, specifically for the purchase of a sensory tunnel that will include the company’s logo.

Farmers market expanding with weekday events

Coal City's farmers market, Market Fresh on Broadway, is expanding with two weekday markets.
The additional market days will provide area residents added opportunities to purchase locally sourced produce, along with homemade and handcrafted items.
The idea of weekday markets has been a topic of discussion among organizers since Market Fresh on Broadway debuted in 2016. With the encouragement and support of vendors, the farmers market committee is ready to open up Campbell Memorial Park from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, and Thursday, Sept. 6

Investing in Coal City

     Investors from seven countries will travel to Illinois next week to tour six Chicagoland communities and Coal City is one of them.
    “We are finally coming around to the point our participation in SelectChicago is coming due,” Village Administrator Matt Fritz told the Village Board at a rescheduled meeting on Monday.
    The village announced in February it would participate in SelectChicago, a program designed to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to the area.
