Library adds privacy booth for quiet conversations

Quiet has always been expected in libraries. But inside the Wilmington Public Library, silence has never been easy to achieve.
Housed inside a former church with a high ceiling and open floor plan, the building tends to carry sound throughout the space.
“This building, you can hear everything,” said library director Maria Meachum. “When people say ‘use indoor voices,’ you might as well not bother, because they can hear you whisper too.”
Because of that design, the library has long felt more like a community gathering space than a traditional silent reading room.

Library offering free streaming services

Wilmington Public Library is thrilled to announce its latest offering, Kanopy, an innovative streaming service designed to enrich the library's digital landscape with entertainment and educational resources.
Wilmington Library cardholders are now granted access to a remarkable array of over 30,000 films, television shows, documentaries, educational courses, and more, far exceeding the library's existing collection of approximately 7,500 movies.

Wilmington Library set to host second vaccine clinic

Folks looking to receive a COVID-19 vaccination will have an opportunity to attend a Will County Health Department clinic in Wilmington in early February.

The Wilmington Public Library District is setting up to host another COVID-19 vaccination clinic, after an two-day event earlier this month proved to be highly successful.

The Wilmington Public Library District has a message for members of the community: Come on out and visit!

WPLD Circulation Manager Lisa Butler stopped in to the Jan. 4 meeting of the Wilmington City Council to give a brief update on library happenings, including plans to forgive fines for late returned books.

“I know that the last couple of years have been kind of rough for everybody,” Butler said. “So, the library has declared a do over for all Wilmington patrons by forgiving all library fines.”

Wilmington Library offering assistance in registering for vaccine

The Wilmington Public Library District is offering assistance to anyone who wishes to register with the Will County Health Department to receive the COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Library Director Maria Meachum said anyone who doesn’t have a computer or is hesitant to apply online can call the library and staff members will step them through the process.
