Small Town Theatrics, a community theater founded and based in Coal City, will host a youth workshop this summer.
    Students entering fourth to ninth grades are invited to take part in the two-week workshop exploring various aspects of theatrical performance, from acting and vocals, to choreography and set design.
    The workshop will be directed by Jack Micetich, founder of Small Town Theatrics and musical director for Coal City Unit 1 School District. He will be assisted by vocal director Shanan D’Agostino.

On Memorial Day, American Legion Post 796 will join the community in saluting the men and women who served our nation, paying particular note to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom. In all, 761 Coal City area residents were called to military service from World War 1 to Vietnam. Twenty-four of them did not return home.
