Additional Grundy residents tested for COVID-19

The Grundy County Health Department has announced an increase in the number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number cases in the county to 52.
As of Tuesday the health department had reported 19 new cases since April 28. The new cases involve two males and one female under age 20, one male and one female in their 20s, two males and four females in their 30s, two males and two females in their 40s, one male in his 50s and one male and two females in their 60s.
Grundy County’s first positive case was reported March 23, and since that time, 29 people have completed the recommended isolation period and have been released from isolation, according to Michelle Pruim, the county’s public health administrator.
The total positive cases to date involved 25 males and 27 females. By age and gender there have been three females and two males under the age of 20, five males and three females in their 20s, three male and six females in their 30s, seven males and six females in their 40s, among those in their 50 there are five males and five females, two males and four females in their 60s and one male in his 70s.
In all, 280 have tested negative for the virus in Grundy.
“The state of Illinois continues to achieve additional testing capability, and with this we see an increase in positive cases. As of recent, the rate at which positive tests is increasing greater than the rate of negative tests. We shall continue to assume that COVID-19 is widespread in Grundy, and may be for some time,” Pruim said.
At press time Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health was reporting 346,286 tests had been performed with 65,962 positive cases statewide and 2,838 deaths.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have modified the possible symptoms of coronavirus to include cough and/or shortness of breath, or at least two to of the following symptoms—fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and loss of taste or smell. The list is not inclusive, and symptomatic persons should contact their health care provider for additional guidance. Symptoms my appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
“Residents should continue to practice social distancing so as to keep our number of cases minimal in Grundy,” Pruim said.
