Coal City implements CodeRED emergency system

The village of Coal City has implemented a villagewide alert system to provide citizens with important information regarding emergency situations and important community information.
Town officials agreed to move forward with the system a year ago, and after months of preparation the program became available to residents within the last week.
The CodeRED system serves as the backbone of the village of Coal City emergency planning and communications outreach to both citizens and staff. The system sends telephone calls, text messages, e-mails and posts to social media channels to inform residents to better protect life and property. CodeRED was selected for its reliability and accuracy, as well as the system’s wide spread adoption rates across the United States.
“CodeRED’s robust notification system provides village officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our citizens during emergencies. We are eager to use this innovative technology to enhance our emergency preparedness plans,” said police chief Tom Best.
The village anticipates using the system to notify residents during all emergent situations and life threatening events.
OnSolve has provided the village of Coal City an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers; however all residents living within the village of Coal City limits are encouraged to visit the town’s website, www.coalcity-il.gov and click on the CodeRED logo to enroll their contact information including cell phone numbers, text and e-mail addresses. No one should automatically assume they are in the emergency contact database.
Public safety officials across the United States have credited CodeRED notifications for successfully locating missing children, apprehending wanted criminals and issuing timely evacuations.
