Coal City to pick its idol

Coal City will pick its idol in a contest that’s never been seen in the community.
Coal City Idol, a vocal music competition, will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Coal City Unit 1 Auditorium at Coal City High School. The contest will pit 24 contestants of all ages and walks of life from around the area against each other for a chance to win a one the largest trophies ever presented in Coal City, as well as gift cards to several area stores and restaurants.
The night will be filled with song and suspense, as the voting will be similar to what television views witnessed over several seasons of a similarly named vocal competition. This time the audience will purchase tickets that will be used as votes for their favorite performer.
Taking the stage for Coal City Idol are Rachel Drauden, Tori White, Alex Friddle, Richard Bell, DeKotah Rueger, Sophia Johnson, Joey Fatigante, Jesse McCants, Makayla Wilkins, Ryan Rutkowski, Miranda Ramirez, Dominick Ramsey, Juliana Gomien, Heather Kuhel, Jeremy Krizmanic, Riann Galus, Jasmine Gaertner, Sammie Olson, Garrick Phelps, Eddie Leasure and Matt Nevin.
Admission to the 7 p.m. contest is $5 per person and will be available at the door.
Organizers say it will be a night of fun for the whole family, one the community certainly will not want to miss.
Coal City Idol is a fundraiser for Coal City High School’s fall play “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” directed by Bonnie McDowell.  Those attending the vocal contest will likely see a sneak peak at a few of the characters who will take the stage for the show to be presented Nov. 3 through 5.
