BENCHES INSTALLED ALONG the bike path in the village of Diamond were damaged over the Fourth of July holiday. Mayor Terry Kernc said the village will seek the prosecution of the offenders.
A rash of criminal damage to property reports have recently been made in the village of Diamond, namely in the areas of Diamond Estates, Burt Estates and along Will Road.
The most recent damage reports were made Monday with a series of broken windows.
A week earlier, sometime between midnight and 3 a.m. on July 4, someone damaged benches located on the bike path adjacent to McGinty Street. The benches were constructed and installed as part of a Boy Scout Eagle project.
As village officials report, this incident followed a string of vandalism and criminal activity conducted by unknown subjects.
During the month of June there were reports of spikes in the roadway, residents doors being kicked, battery and disorderly conduct, incidents that come with a financial cost to residents and the village.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the vandalism and ask individuals that have video or anything that would help identify the suspects to contact them. Additionally, they ask that any criminal activity be reported to their office.
Mayor Terry Kernc commended the sheriff’s office for its responsiveness and efforts to combat to criminal activity in the village.
