Illinois veterans picnic Saturday

Operation Firm Handshake will host its 7th annual Illinois Veterans Picnic, an event organized by local veterans to meet and greet veterans from across the state and recognize their military service.
All Illinois veterans and active duty service personnel are invited to participate with their families on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Coal City Area Club, 1500 N. Broadway.
The free event offers past and present members of the U.S. Armed Forces a place to gather and enjoy each others’ company, and if they choose, to reminisce about their service days. It’s a day set aside to have fun with family, friends and comrades—old and new.
A pig roast will be the main course and refreshments provided. There will be a bean bag tournament, door prizes, 50/50 raffle, entertainment and displays.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their appetite and a lawn chair.
