Intermediate school musical set for May, auditions next week

For the first time in four years, the Coal City Theatre Department will present an intermediate school musical.

Fourth and fifth graders are encouraged to audition for the upcoming performance of “Madagascar—A Musical Adventure Jr.”

The stage production is based on the DreamWorks animated motion picture about a group of animal friends who escape New York’s Central Park Zoo on a journey to Madagascar.

Auditions will be held at the intermediate school during recess on Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12. Students will audition on a first come, first served basis.

Those auditioning will be asked to sing 30-60 seconds of a song of their choice and come prepared to sing a cut from the show song, “Best Friends” and act out a scene from the show.

Casting decisions will be based on what is seen in the audition room.

The intermediate school musical is being directed by Coal City High School senior Derek Carlson with assistance from members of the high school Drama Club overseen by Jack Micetich.

The rehearsal schedule will be based on the high school students’ availability and schedules of cast members.

The show will be presented in the Coal City Performing Arts Center on Friday, May 19.
