Kinzinger Supports Bipartisan Jan. 6 Commission

Washington, DC – Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) released the following statement on H.R 3233, the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act, ahead of the House vote this week:

“I fully support a national commission to investigate the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol Complex. Making this effort bipartisan is critical to ensuring we find out what led to this insurrection and what security measures are needed moving forward.

“This should not be about party politics; this should not be a partisan fight. The insurrection on January 6th was an attack on all who work at the Capitol—both Democrats and Republicans were hiding out and fearing for their lives that day. It was an attack on our democracy, and a violent attempt to stop us from fulfilling our legislative duties. It was an attack on our Constitution, and now, it is our responsibility to get a full accounting of what led to it and what improvements we must make to prevent future violent acts from happening again.

“We cannot let fear stop us from doing what is right. This week, I will proudly vote in support of the bipartisan January 6th commission and hope it is successful in shedding light on the truth.”
