Non-profits gain tips from financial pros

    The Unit 1 School District, Mack & Associates, LLC and Coal City Bank, a branch of Bank of Pontiac, partnered together to offer a free financial practices seminar for community non-profits.
    The Oct. 17 seminar provided participants with information on budgeting, developing sound purchasing practices, establishing a financial checks and balances system and ways to identify signs of potential fraud.
    Unit 1 Superintendent Dr. Kent Bugg reported 14 area non-profits took advantage of the program, including two new organizations—Coal City Tennis Association and Motorcycle Ride Association.
    Also in attendance were representatives from Operation Firm Handshake, Morris Area PADS, Morris Kiwanis Club, Dwight Area Baseball, GSW Area Baseball, Gardner Grade School Parent School Organization, United Way, Will-Grundy Medical Clinic, Coal City Soccer, Coal City Cub Scouts, Coal City Athletic Boosters and Coal City Parent School Organization.
    “I was very pleased to have all of (mentioned) non-profit organizations in attendance,” Bugg said.
