Pumpkins, produce and more at the market

    Pumpkins, produce, and pie are just a few of the items that will be available in Campbell Memorial Park during the village of Coal City’s farmers market—Market Fresh on Broadway.  
    The fifth and final market of the season is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the park located at 580 S. Broadway.
    Coal City’s market is designed to provide area residents with locally-grown produce and locally-sourced products.  It also offers residents a location to try new foods  and exercise routines, and access unique products.
    A stage spotlights local talent ,and this week vocalist Rachel Drauden will entertain market shoppers from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Ms. Rene from the Coal City Public Library District will be back in the gazebo to host her popular morning storytime beginning at 8:45 a.m.
    For a second season, Riverside Medical Center will host pumpkin decorating.
    On the menu this week is Milkman Cafe’s signature sweet potato and brussels sprout hash with fried egg and drizzled with a honey siraccha sauce, brunch tacos with farm fresh eggs, bacon, salsa, avocado sour cream and cilantro and the California burrito filled with braised beef, fries, avocado, sour cream, cheese and salsa.  
    At the request of its customers, Backwoods BBQ will be serving bowls of its smoked brisket chili and corn bread. Backwoods BBQ will be serving from the park concession stand beginning at 10 a.m.  
    The highlight to every market are the vendors and the goods they offer. Taking part in Saturday’s market are:
    • Albo Acres—Alpaca fiber, yarn, figures, hats, gloves, socks, shoe inserts, dryer balls, blankets, purses, sweaters, and more.
    • Perkins Farm—Variety of garden grown vegetables.
    • Sunny Bee Farm—Fresh honey produced in Coal City. Available in 1- and 2-pound bottles.
    • Three Sisters Produce—Jams, jellies, spices, pies and other baked goods,  custom blended herbal teas and produce.
    • M&M Specialties Custom Bake Shoppe—Muffins, cookies, breads, kringla, cakes, pies, scones and cupcakes in a jar.
    • Apisera Craftworks—Herbs, plants and vegetables.
    • Stella’s Serendipity—Natural, food-based body scrubs, bath bombs and related products.
    • Candy and Corn—Snow cones, gourmet and buttered popcorn, cookies, candy, praline nuts and cotton candy.
    • Little Farm on the Prairie—Natural cage free eggs laid on a state licensed farm in Saunemin.  Sold at the market as a fundraiser for the Coal City Soccer Club.
