Search organized for missing retired Andrew High School teacher

Volunteers are needed to help search on Saturday, Nov. 10, for missing retired Andrew High School teacher Daniel Jarski of Grant Park.
The search group will gather at 8 a.m. at Kankakee River State Park to comb a fishing/boat launch area located just west of Warner Bridge Road and south of Route 102. Parking is available. Anyone with training and experience in search and rescue efforts is invited to assist the group.  Members of the media also are welcome to attend.
"If you can't make it at 8 a.m., we need help all day," said Jarski's sister Tina Jarski-Riley of Worth. "The morning shift people may need a break. Please try to come and help search for my brother."
The group hopes to search more of the state park before winter sets in and conditions are more hazardous for volunteers.
Although we will be searching the north side of the river in the non-hunting area, it is hunting season, so all searchers are advised to wear orange or brightly colored outerwear, as well as warm clothes and sturdy shoes, said Jarski's youngest sister Leah Bielski of Lemont.
Jarski, 62, disappeared Sept. 9.  A traffic camera recorded his red Chevy Express van heading west on Manteno Road near Interstate 57. The van was found Sept. 11 parked at the state park's Hunting Area 6 off Route 113.  Jarski left his credit cards and cell phone at home. No trace of the married father of three has been found since.
Jarski retired in 2017 from Andrew High School in Tinley Park where he taught science. Many of his former students attended a "Vigil of Hope" in his honor at the school on Oct. 20. They, along with family and friends, spoke highly of Jarski's teaching skills, love of family, intelligence and good nature.  Jarski's disappearance is deeply troubling to his family and friends and they will continue to search until he is found.
Jarski is 6-foot-2, weighs approximately 300 pounds and wears round, John Lennon-style glasses. He has blue eyes, gray hair and a mustache.
If anyone has any information on Jarski's disappearance, please call Detective Brady Bertrand at 815-802-7159. For more information on the search, contact Bielski at <mailto:leahjarski@comcast.net>leahjarski@comcast.net.

The search group will gather at 8 a.m. at Kankakee River State Park to start the search at the fishing/boat launch area located just west of Warner Bridge Road and south of Route 102.
