St. Juvin Post honors World War II vet

Members of St. Juvin Post 1336 Veterans of Foreign Wars honored life member and past commander Dean McKinney on his 94th birthday with drive-by greetings from Post members and over 50 additional cars of well wishers.
Due to the current conditions in Illinois, the family and Post members could not have a traditional birthday party for McKinney, a WWII veteran who served in the Middle East and Europe with the U.S. Army's Engineer Corps.
In civilian life Dean was a Coal City Police officer and later did all the village utility maintenance. He also operated an excavation business installing residential water lines and sewer connections.
Post 1336’s outgoing commander Charlie Brown said, “I have known Dean since 1957 when my family moved to Coal City. Dean did all his business with a handshake, he wasn't much for contracts. When Coal City got a modern sanitary sewer system, Dean did many of the hookups. If someone didn't have all the money upfront Dean put the hookup in anyway. I don't think I have ever met a finer man, he always reminded me of my dad, an old fashioned ‘your word is your bond’ kind of guy. We could use a lot more of Dean McKinney in this country.”
