Unit 1 Foundation awards $29,000 in scholarships

THE UNIT 1 Educational Foundation handed out $17,000 in scholarships. The financial awards ranging from $250 to $1,000 were presented on June 29 to 21 individuals. Those receiving $1,000 awards included [from left]: Madison Emerson, Rose Feeney, Kelsie Norris and Aspen Johnson. Also receiving $1,000 scholarships were Kaitlyn Forehand, Samantha Hanley, Trevor Hanson, Sophia Jakubowski, Joshua Michalak, Megan Norris, Mikayla Norris, Austin Pullara, Cody Rogers and Emily Spreitzer. Receiving $500 awards were Kit Clayburn, Natalie Durham, Payton Hutchings, Macy McDowell and Tyson Spencer. Recipients of $250 scholarships were Jessica Leasure and Alexis Medina.

The Unit 1 Educational Foundation and its partners recently handed out $29,000 in scholarships to graduating members of the Coal City High School class of 2020, as well as alumni.
Lillian Best was the recipient of the John Cumming Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 award for a student who will attend Illinois State University.
Kit Clayburn, Natalie Durham and Payton Hutchings were recipients of the Martis Family Scholarship, a $500 award presented in memory of Martis.
Ryleigh Christensen, Cole Garcia, Preston Johnson, Alicia LaRouech, Nolan O’Keefe and Lauren Phillips were recipients of the $500 Indicom Electric/Greg Hill Scholarships.
The $500 Grundy County Law Enforcement Managers Association Scholarship was presented to Cole Garcia.
Jessica Leasure and Alexis Medina received the $750 Cueller Family Scholarships and Jacob Shumaker was the recipient of a $1,000 Cueller Family Scholarship.
Macy McDowell received the $500 Rick Darling Family Scholarship.
The $500 Reeves/Baskerville Science Scholarship was presented to Tyson Spencer.
Keaira Williams was presented with the $2,500 Dr. Lombardi Scholarship
