Voter turnout below 15%

There are 34,513 registered voters in Grundy County and less than 15% cast a ballot in last week’s consolidated election.

There are 246 registered voters in the village of Carbon Hill where residents were to elect members to its Village Board. A total of 31 ballots were cast with three residents elected to serves as commissioners for the next four years, and two filling unexpired terms.

Incumbents Tyler Jones and Laura Jones and Laura Johnson were selected to serve four-year terms while Lorna Surman and Eric Johnson will complete the two-year un-expired terms.

The vote totals in the four year race were—Tyler Jones, 23: Laura Jones, 20; Laura Johnson, 18; and Gary Smith, 13.
In the two-year race Surman garnered 23 votes and Eric Johnson 10.

There was just one commissioner position up for election in the village of Diamond and incumbent Addis Dean Johnson was the sole candidate.

There are 1,564 registered voters in the village and 119 votes were cast between election day and mail-in voting. Johnson collected 109 votes.

Local residents were also called on to select representation on the Unit 1 Board of Education. There were four seats available and four candidates on the ballot.

Incumbents Kenneth P. Miller, the current Board president, received 29.41% of the vote and Quintin Harmon captured 22.89% of vote. Joining them are Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Klein who garnered 25.08% of the vote and Daniel P. Englehardt who collected 22.63%.

Departing the school board are Robert Bianchetta and Chuck Lander who opted not to seek re-election.

Voters also elected three members to the Coal City Public Library District’s Board of Trustees.

Selected to serve six year terms are incumbents Deborah Trotter, the current Board president, who collected 853 votes and Betsy Stahler who received 789 votes. Incumbent Renee McLuckie, the current treasurer, will fill an un-expired term having received 1,010 votes.

The vote totals from the April 4 election are un-official until the retabulation and canvass to be held in the office of the Grundy County Clerk and Recorder on Wednesday, April 19.
