WPD car show will raise funds to buy toys

The Wilmington Police Department is hosting a car show to raise funds to purchase toys for the less fortunate youngsters of the community.
The show will be held Sunday, Oct. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m., on the municipal parking lot on the west bank of the millrace, near Nelly’s.
The cost to display a vehicle is $20. A Best of Show trophy will be awarded.
The officers plan to use the funds raised to expand on The Free Press Newspapers’ Secret Santa giveaway, where the newspaper and patrol officers stop vehicles and give the driver a gift cart — only they’ll be handing out toys to the kids they encounter.
Officer Dan Brimer said he hopes to find a retailer that will provide a dollar-to-dollar match of the funds the car show raises.
