Coal City rolls to ICE Conference title

The Coal City wrestling team captured the ICE Conference Tournament title Saturday at Coal City with championships in 10 weight classes and overwhelming depth throughout the lineup,
The Coalers finished with 276.5 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Braidwood (Reed-Custer) with 112.0. Herscher placed third with 94.0 points, followed by Lisle (82.5), Wilmington (50.0), Manteno (48.5), Peotone (46.0) and Streator (20.5).

Coalers reign over the state

The dynasty continues for the Coal City wrestling program, defeating top-ranked Vandalia 32-25 on Saturday to capture the Class 1A Dual Team state championship.
For eight of the last 10 years the Coalers have brought home a state trophy including their second 1st place on Saturday, four seconds and two thirds.

Coalers the top pick for return to state

The outcome of Tuesday night’s dual team sectional championship was unknown as of press time, but we’re betting that the Coal City wrestling team won and will advance to state.
The Coalers were to face Chicago Hope Academy in the Wilmington sectional, a team that didn’t advance anyone to the state individual tournament while Coal City had 14 qualifiers.
