Wildcats beat the Bulldogs

Two touchdowns each for Wildcats Conner Dempsay and Sam Hafner were enough to shutout the Streator Bulldogs as the Wilmington varsity football team kept their playoff hopes alive.

Wilmington racked up 354 yards of offense before a Senior Night crowd, while limiting Streator to 128 yards, 93 on the ground.

The Cat's went up 20-0 before the half thanks to a pair of interceptions and added an insurance touchdown in the fourth to win it 27-0.

Excellence in art

    Coal City High School’s art department took part in the Interstate Eight Conference Art Competition and three students were recognized for excellence in art.
    The annual event held last week at Herscher High School featured artwork submitted by students from each of the conference schools.
    Seventeen Coal City students submitted pieces for the contest. Two students—Emily Powers and Jessica Winslow—were entered in the portfolio competition. Winslow was named an All-Conference portfolio finalist, winning an Award of Excellence.

Coal City was trailing Wilmington Friday night 28-24 with about four minutes to left when they put together a drive deep into Wildcat territory.

Coaler quarterback Payton Hutchings dropped back to pass on a third-and-13 play when he spotted Blake Harseim racing Wilmington defender Jacob Rodawold for the end zone. Hutchings threw, Harseim and Rodawold went up in the air for a catch and they both came down with the ball. What happened next had coaches and fans on both sides of the field confused by what the referee called.

The Interstate Eight Conference shake-up

    Schools are getting on board with the idea of a reconfiguration of the Interstate Eight Conference, as Wilmington school board members discussed the move Wednesday.
    It all started when Seneca announcedit will be leaving the I-8 at the end of this school year.
    Since then I-8 schools have been meeting monthly to discuss their options.
