Wilmington Wildcat State Champs honored

The Wilmington School District 209-U Board of Education and the City of Wilmington honored the members of this year’s state champion Wilmington Wildcat football team during December.

Dist. 209-U Board president Terry Anderson thanked the team for their hard work this fall, and noted that players can take pride that their school excels in both academics and athletics.

Meanwhile, the City Council presented the team with the new state champion road sign that will be placed at the entrance to the city.

Finances for Wilmington School District 209-U look to be in good shape, following the audit of the fiscal year that concluded on June 30. On Sept. 11, Tawnya Mack, CPA and Partner with Mack & Associates, delivered to the members of the board of education the results of the 2023 fiscal year (FY23), which concluded on June 30. The audit shows that the district’s general fund, which is comprised of educational, operations and maintenance, and working cash funds, ended the year with a fund balance of $15.5 million.

Students headed back to class via remote learning this fall should expect a much different version of instruction than what occurred this spring.

When schools closed in March across the state due to Gov. JB Pritzker’s executive order regarding the novel coronavirus, all districts went into emergency mode. To that end, parents, students and staff alike ended up on a somewhat “learn as you go” model as they navigated their way through the end of the school year.
