Red bills in the mail for past due water bills

The village of Coal City sent out 200 envelopes containing red letters advising water users their bi-monthly water bill remained unpaid.
“We sent out the red bill because the due date for the water bill was actually the end of February, so on March 15 it was time for the reminder bill,” Village Administrator Matt Fritz told the Village Board last week.
The reminder bill is the final step before public works employees begin disconnecting water and sewer service and that was on the schedule for later this week.

Liquor license holders get a break

Restaurant and bar owners in the village of Coal City are getting a break this year as town trustees directed annual liquor license fees be waived.
By village code the payment of liquor licenses is due April 1 to allow town officials the time necessary to review and deliver renewed licenses prior to their expiration on April 30.
Village administrator Matt Fritz suggested that due to current state mandates in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 that have forced bars to shut their doors, the village look to delay the license fee to mid-April.

Coal City handing out $25 certificates

Residential utility customers in the village of Coal City will be receiving a bill and a bonus in the mail next week. The bi-monthly utility bill due to arrive April 1 will contain a $25 Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry gift certificate. This is not an April Fool’s prank. Coal City Village Administrator Matt Fritz reports the village has looked at providing some type of incentive for residents and local business support in the past and given the unprecedented circumstances with COVID-19, it seems like the perfect time.

First confirmed case of COVID-19 Grundy County

The Grundy County Health Department announced the first case COVID-19 in Grundy County. The resident is a female in her 30’s. Public health officials are identifying and working  with all close contacts. Federal privacy restrictions prohibit the release of any additional information. 

Circuit clerk encourages use of online services

Grundy County Circuit Clerk Corri Trotter encourages court patrons to utilize online services to reduce in-person visits to the courthouse to protect the health and safety of patrons and employees. “Out of concern for the health of our court partners, staff and the public, the Grundy County Circuit Clerk's Office is encouraging court patrons to use our many online services for as much court business as possible. Using these services can reduce the number of people visiting the courthouse in person, and help slow community transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

Morris Hospital tests first positive patient

Morris Hospital has confirmed its first positive COVID-19 test result on a patient who was tested at the hospital on March 16. The patient is at home in isolation. The patient was not admitted to the hospital.
Upon notification of the test results, hospital officials immediately consulted the Infectious Disease physician on the hospital medical staff and the health department. All of the recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Illinois Department of Public Health are being followed, along with all of the necessary precautions.

COVID-19: Changes in Grundy County building access

Grundy County Board chairman Chris Balkema has announced changes in county building access. Grundy County remains open, via phone and email, to assist residents with their needs. In accordance with Governor’s Executive Order 2020-07, the county is modifying its standard practices and procedures to provide essential services and practice social distancing for the protection of the public and its employees. As a result, the following changes are occurring: • The County Administration Building, 1320 Union St., will close to the public today (Thursday, March 19) at 4:30 p.m.

Morris Hospital expands visitor restrictions

For the safety of the community, Morris Hospital has further restricted visiting at the hospital in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Effective immediately, no visitors are permitted for hospital inpatients. The only exceptions will be one support person for laboring mothers, critical patients, children 17 and younger who are hospitalized or in the emergency department, or patients having surgery or invasive procedures involving sedation.

Grundy County unofficial general primary election results

The unofficial results of Tuesday’s general primary election were posted by the Grundy County Clerk and Recorders Office just after 9 p.m.
According to the clerk’s election page 6,890 ballots were cast and have been counted. The results will be official following the vote canvas.
In Grundy County, President Donald J. Trump collected 2,614 Republican votes. On the Democratic side, Joe Biden was the choice of Grundy voters receiving 56.72 percent of the vote, Bernie Sanders was second with 35.98 percent. Biden won the Illinois primary.
