Lady Comets get back on track with shutout win

    The Reed-Custer varsity softball team closed out their competition in the Providence Celtic Invitational on Saturday, as they picked up a 4-0 win over Minooka.
    The Lady Comets (4-3 overall) wound up going 2-1 during the tournament, picking up wins over Minooka and Neuqua Valley. The two wins came after losing three in a row on the schedule.
    Reed-Custer lost in the opening round of the tournament to Andrew (4-3), and suffered losses earlier in the week to Bishop McNamara (1-0) and Joliet Catholic Academy (6-5).

Comets split double-header with Clifton, suffer first loss of season

    The Reed-Custer varsity baseball team played a double-header Saturday against Clifton Central, splitting the two games, going 1-1 on the day.
    The Comets (3-1 overall) picked up a win in the first game, defeating the visitors in five innings, 10-0.
    Reed-Custer came out swinging, as they jumped to an early 7-0 lead in the second inning.
    Singles by Trevor McLaughlin, Hunter Murawski, Tyler Richey, Eddie Wilkins and Mason Roach lead to runs getting pushed across the plate.

Lady Comets pick up another win

    Reed-Custer’s varsity softball team kept their fast start to the season going, picking up their second shutout win in a row.
    They defeated Clifton Central last Tuesday, 11-0 through five innings, improving to 2-0.
    Kenna Wilkey continued to highlight her senior season, earning her second no-hitter in two games, as she pitched all five frames.
    She finished with 11 strikeouts and one walk, while allowing no hits or runs.

Lady Comet soccer falls to Coal City

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls soccer team held its home opener last Tuesday, suffering a loss to Coal City, 1-0.
    The Lady Comets (1-1 overall) put up a good fight, but just couldn’t find the back of the net during the non-conference match.
    Reed-Custer got off to a fast start, creating the first two scoring opportunities of the game.
    Coal City would buckle down defensively though, as they also started to apply some pressure offensively towards the end of the first half.

New Season, new coach

New coaches face new challenges, but for new Reed-Custer baseball coach Jake Evans, he steps up into a program that's well established.

Evans inherits a program that was groomed 43 years by Jerry Cougill, including a state championship last year.
